Sara joined Richmond Music Trust in 2019 as part of the short breaks service in Hounslow. She qualified as a music therapist from the University of the West of England in 2018. Prior to her training Sara worked for 18 years in the care sector, in the fields of learning disabilities, autism and mental health, supporting children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. In 2007 Sara completed a masters degree in Deaf Studies and subsequently worked with deaf young adults in community settings. During her music therapy training Sara worked with children with autism, adults with learning disabilities and children with profound and multiple learning disabilities, in school settings and supported living environments.

Since qualifying Sara has facilitated music therapy groups with young children and adolescents in a school in Bristol, working with adopted children and children with autism. In addition to her role at the RMT, Sara works as a visiting musician at the Bristol Children’s Hospital, as part of the Grand Appeal Arts Programme. She is also in the process of helping to set up a weekly music project in the children’s neuro rehab ward. Sara has a voluntary support role with ReVoice choir, a choir for adults with aphasia and other life-limiting conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s. Sara is a pianist and a percussionist; she teaches piano and is an accompanist for a visually impaired choir in Bristol.
