Melissa is a trained concert pianist. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she obtained an undergraduate degree in solo piano performance, and a postgraduate degree in piano accompaniment. She has performed extensively both as a soloist and accompanist, and enjoys playing in a variety of styles. Melissa then trained in addition as a music therapist and now combines a career consisting of music therapy, performing and teaching, and has two private practices for piano lessons. As well as working for the Richmond Music Trust, Melissa is a music therapist for several other organisations and the NHS, and a freelance music therapist. She works with both children and adults, and provides music therapy for a variety of diagnoses. This includes learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, dementia, and mental health difficulties. She has worked across special needs schools, hospitals, rehabilitation units, day centres, and care homes.
